Hello and welcome to my site!

Feel free to browse, listen to the music samples, read and remark in my guestbook and order a CD if you like.

My bio tells you a little about my background, but basically I am a singer/songwriter in Melbourne, Australia. My songs are mostly melodic rock and blues for the thinking person.

My CD "The Friday Sessions" has gathered 9 awards, national and international for the songs. Email me and I will let you know how to get a hold of one :).

My CD "Touch" is still available through CD Baby and online at Itunes and other online stores. 14 song album of songs of the heart and soul. This is the culmination of years of writing, demoing and struggling to get this CD released. It's had some great reviews which are on the music page.

July 2007
I am playing in the Save the Nighthawk festival this weekend. I met my girlfriend at this lovely venue and it is a great place to hear wonderful music outside the CBD.
Please go there sometime for dinner and enjoy the music! It is in Mentone, corner of Nepean Hwy and Balcombe Road.

I am making a music video to go with Way Down Homeless Blues at the moment and working out release plans.

Jess and I went well in Canberra a couple of weeks ago and folk clubs really dig our songs, they bought our CD's by the dozens, so we will be doing good folk club gigs and festivals. Do let us know if you have a happening folk scene in your area :)

June 2007

Jess and I are off to Canberra for a Friday gig at The Merry Muse Folk Club. This involves 8 hours driving up the Hume.. so I hope we get a good turnout. Sounds like the club has some great acts and keen listeners.

I am reheasing with the rather legendary John Swann and we are planning some gigs together soon. Put your name on my email list for breaking news.

April 2007

Jessica and I are off to Bendigo Folk club next Friday ( 20th April) and to coincide ABC Radio in Central Victoria is going to have our Cd's as feature albums of the week.

Jessica was in Rolling Stone last month and on Foxtel's music channel for the St Kilda Festival doco and also in the Australian Music Magazine this month. I was a very proud Dad when we were on tour.

Jess is running a nice little night on a Thursday at The Spleen Bar in Bourke Street in the City - where she jams with her many muso friends.. she is a very social young lady and she meets many interesting people when she busks in the Mall. So check it out at 8 p.m. 41 Bourke Street any Thursday.. www.jessicapaige.net

March 2007
Tour to Sydney & Port Macquarie! with my talented daughter, Jessica Paige.

Also The Friday Sessions is off the press at long last.. so I will be working on its release soon! If you want a pre-release copy come and get one at a gig, or email me and we can work it out :) stevenromig@hotmail.com

Asylum! -
yes at last they are putting me in it! ( Asylum TV that is). Channel 31 in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne and in the Tri state of New York (US) will see me solo tonight and repeated tomorrow and Sunday.
AND I am also in the finals of the international Independent Music Awards (US) for Blues!
This is the year of the competition for me, (and it bears out my feeling that THIS crop of songs is really the pinnacle of my songwriting career..!)

July06
Woohoo! I just won the Jazz/Blues section of the Unisong International Competition with Way Down Homeless Blues. Now I can get the CD's pressed!

June 06
My album The Friday Sessions is mastered at long last. Now for pressing and distribution. Keep tuned for gigs coming up and radio play.

April 06
The trio of me, Mike Kelly and Kaye Harrison went over really well at The Mount Beauty Music Muster and the organisers quickly added more performances to our schedule to cater for demand. Sold heaps of CD's and it was altogether a delightful experience!

. "Way Down Homeless Blues" came in first in the Blues section of the International Song Competition - thanks to the most honourable judges - Tom Waits, Charlie Musselwhite and Bruce Iglauer of Alligator Records. I am very thankful for the honour, not to mention the great prizes (including cash which means I can get my album mastered! ). Also an Epiphone acoustic guitar, Sibelius Software, Fishman pre-amp, Taxi Membership, magazines and industry directories, and more ....... We all know music isn't a competition, but, Hey! Sometimes you need some recognition and encouragement as well as a financial hand to get things going. Internationalsongcompetition

Feb 06
My song "Way Down Homelesss Blues" is in the finals of the International Song Competition in the Blues Category. ISC received almost 15,000 entries from 80 countries, and the finalists selected represent 1.4% of the total number of entries.

November 05
One of my songs"I've Got your Body on my Mind', has come 4th in the Blues Category in the Musicoz national competition www.musicoz.org. This is the biggest awards competition in Australia for unsigned artists.

The next CD "The Friday Sessions" will be orderable from most music stores later in 2006 and available at gigs.In the meantime have a little look on the music page for a nice couple of reviews of my last album "Touch" by the editor of The Beat Magazine Nick Snelling, and well known roots & blues reviewer, Billy Pinell.

Also many thanks to Billy Hydes Music at Blackburn and Sound Vault Records distribution who have undertaken to send the CD all over the country. And lastly - you folk who go to the trouble to look up my site to find out a bit more - after 25 years in the business I feel my time has come!!

I am delighted to say I have recently acquired one of the amazing Line 6 Variax guitars which means I no longer have to fumble on stage changing guitars and tunings. I just dial up the selections I have pre-programmed. Very cool and very easy. Like me:)

My "little accident" on the bicycle on the way home from work at night in April 2005 turned out to be a fractured skull and two broken vertebrae in my neck. I'm so glad that jogger went by! I could have been there all night. Instead I had a swift trip by ambulance to hospital, a scary few days lying there flat on my back and an operation to weld me back together. So, slightly squeaky, and I may set off airport alarms, but am back at work and can still sing and play guitar, walk and enjoy life. I may write a song about the hospital blues, but I never doubted that I would get through it - I generally do you know. :)

I hope you enjoy your visit to the site - do come back and check the gig guide occasionally for the latest - there will be some festival bookings for next summer hopefully.Full songs are able to be streamed from my myspace profile at www.myspace.com/steveromig and also mp3.com.au (Rock My World) and soundclick (We Don't Get too Close in Case You Cry).

Industry Comments:

"Steve Romig is in the top 1% of vocalists in this country. Few musicians have the soul and blues of this incredibly talented singer."
James Roche, Bachelor Girl

"I wanted to work with Steve because I was so touched by the songs they just made me feel so much &.incredibly moving.."
Doug Brady (triple ARIA Award-winning sound engineer)

I'll never forget the first time I heard Steve's voice - it knocked me for a six. The resonance, soul and tone in this man's voice makes him world class. A great song-writer too." - Tania Doko, (lead singer of Bachelor Girl)

"I have been a fan of Steve's for nearly 20 years. Both his talents - singer and songwriter stand out. The lyrics on the album are enormously sensitive but Steve never loses his sense of humour, even though it can sometimes be very black. I wish I could write songs as well as Steve Romig." - Mike Brady, (Singer-Songwriter & Music Publisher)

I welcome comments and feedback on my music so please feel free to send me a line at stevenromig@hotmail.com. and put your name down for the newsletter.
Peace and harmonies,
